Lima is is as cosmopolitan as any other city in the Americas and even the world.  However, due to i’s unique landscapes Lima is not only focused on the coastal area. The only trekking in Peru is not only found on a Machu Picchu Hike.

Lima is actually also close to the highlands, in some cases only a few minutes of driving and you’re at a spot where you can hike, trek and climb to your hearts content. Here is the list of Top 6 Hikes in Lima: 

1. Lucumo de Lomas

A beautiful landscape that is located in the Valley of the Lurin Rive in the town called Pachacamac just 21 miles (34 kilometers) from Lima.

It is considered to be one of the most scenic ecotourism routes in the capital next to the Lomas de Lachay therefore making on the top 6 hikes in Lima.

This hike begins in the district of San Bartolomé located specifically in Huarochirí. To arrive there you have about 10 hours of trekking (5 hour climb and 5 hours to come back down).

The landscape is amazing. There is a good possibility that you will see condors, deer and the slight chance of a puma. It is considered an important nartural reserve for birds in the Peru.

The hike to Marcahuasi begins in the district of San Pedro de Casta where you will find 2 roads. The first one is about 2 to 3 hours and you eventually arrive at the Monument of Humanity.

The second route is ideal for camping and will lead you to the Amphitheater. This route is perfect for star gazing under the extreme darkness of this region during the night hours.

6. Rupac

This hike takes anywhere from 3 to 5 hours depending on how fast you can walk and has an altitude of 12,000 feet (3,500 meters) above sea level.  It is a beautiful landscape with a majestic waterfall, there is a reason why it is called the Machu Picchu of Lima.
